1.i Title and heading

The first step is to enter a title for your page. You can also add any other text you wish to be displayed on the page. This will form the heading of your page, and thus will appear appear below the title, and above the actual list. This is optional.

Note: The current version of the editor does not support changing the title and heading after creating the file, but it's always possible to do so manually.

1.ii Colours

1.ii Colours

The next step is to select colours used for the table. On the page each row of the table will be coloured according to which colour has been selected for the series and faction in question. A colour for the border of the table can also be selected. Click the Preview button to see the selected colours used in a HTML example.

Note: The colour settings can always be changed later in the File Settings in the menu under File.

1.iii Files selection

1.iii Files selection

The next and last step is to name the file. Just choose a directory, and a filename. (Note that the extention has to be .htm or .html) Also choose a dir for the icons to be stored in. (The icon directory location will be stored in a path relative relative to the path chosen for the HTML file. The online version must have the same relative path. Recommended is a subdirectory called icons in the same directory as the list file, and the recommended name for the file is index.htm or index.html, unless you will be placing the file in a directory where am index already exists.) The URL of the online version can also be entered. This is used only to make it possible to open the online page in a browser directly from the editor, and is optional.

Click the Finish button to create the file.

2. Editing a file

When starting you are prompted to select a list file. If you don't do so, or select the wrong file, you can still select a file by choosing Select.. in the File menu. The statusbar will now display the filename and the total of Transformers listed in that file (current collection only).

You can edit the URL of the online version, and change the colours used for the table rows and border in the same fashion as when a new file is created. Click the Preview button to see the colours used in a HTML example. Click on the Apply button for the changes to take place.

4. Links Menu

4. Links Menu

The Links menu contains contains two sections of links. The first section has links to sites that are (partially) dedicated to Transformers icons. The second section has two links. The first, Current online version, goes to the online version of the list you're currently working on, and is only active when an URL has been entered. The second link, Current offline version, opens the file you're currently working on in your browser, thereby showing the most updated version.

5. Special Attention

The Editor has some features that show up several times, and can be somewhat unclear at times. These are covered here.

5.i Designation

The field Designation was created to provide a unique key (as it would be called in a database), which there wouldn't be in the case of identical double ups for example. The designation field, which contents are not shown on the list page, have proven to be quite useful for sorting, because it is the designation the whole list is sorted by. With some clever use you can therefor sort the list anyway you want. It is important however to make sure a Transformer can be identified by the designation, because it's also the designation the editor displays in the Move, Edit and Remove sections.

The following example shows the different Cheetor incarnations (how many lives does that cat have?) sorted by order of release, while the end of the designation tells which Cheetor it is exactly. Note that the fact that the designations start with the name means that the whole list would be sorted by name. Also realise that the number is indeed needed to sort them by release order; otherwise the Beast Machines versions would come first.

Cheetor01Orig
Cheetor02TM
Cheetor03TM2
Cheetor04BMMega
Cheetor05BMMcD
Cheetor06BMSupr
Cheetor07BMNS

5.ii Icon Grid

When you add an icon you'll see the filename appearing in the left column of the icon grid, and to the right of it, the same name, but starting a capital (if the filename didn't already) and without the extension. The idea is that files are usually named after what they represent, in this case the Transformer they are an image of. The right column will then contain the actual names, which are then used for the so-called ALT attributes of the images in the HTML file, that is, the name that appears while the image is still loading, or when you hold your mouse cursor over the image. Both the left and right column entries can be edited after an icon is added. Up to six icons can be added to cover even the Micromaster Combines Squads.

5.iii Amount

Although normally adding a Transformer to the Current collection will actually mean adding one Transformer, there are cases in which one designation can cover more than one Transformer, like Micromaster Teams or Squads. If this is the case, then the amount needs to be adjusted accordingly when adding a to the Current collection, moving from Yet to arrive to the Current collection, or removing from the Current collection, since the default in these cases is 1.

When editing Transformer information, dealing with the amoung works slightly different. The default is set at 0, because the amount entered is added to the existing amount, and in most cases the amount stays unchanged when information is edited. When the amount needs to be edited as well, enter the number to add to the existing amount. When the amount has to be lowered, enter a negative number. Note that the amount covers the whole collection, so when the amount is the only thing that needs to be edited, simply select a Transformer from the Current collection at random first. (A Transformer always needs to be selected to edit.)
